Russell Picot is the former Group Chief Accounting Officer at HSBC. He joined HSBC in 1993 and was appointed a Group General Manager in 2003. He has a strong personal interest in Sustainability issues and spearheaded the involvement of the Finance function of HSBC with the group’s sustainability programmes as part of their professional development. He is also a member of the International Integrated Reporting Council and prior to this worked extensively to establish the Prince of Wales’ Accounting for Sustainability Project.

He is a director of LifeSight, the Willis Towers Watson UK DC MasterTrust where he chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. Prior to this, he was a director of HSBC ‘s UK Pension Scheme Trustee for almost 15 years during which time he chaired the Audit and Risk Committee and latterly the Asset and Liability Committee.

Russell was one of the co-chairs for the FSB’s Enhanced Disclosure Task Force which was formed in May 2012 and published its report in October that year. The EDTF published annual updates including its most recent report covering the Impact of Expected Credit Loss Approaches on Bank Risk Disclosures.

Russell is a Fellow of the Institute of Charted Accountants in England and Wales and holds a MA in Mathematics from St.John’s College, Cambridge.
