Martin heads the Sustainability, Emerging & Political Risk Management team at Swiss Re Group level. The team integrates environmental, social and governance issues into Swiss Re’s business practices and operations, acts as a catalyst for emerging risks and an analyst for political risks. The unit is responsible for scanning the horizon for future risks and developments, assessing their relevance for Swiss Re, and enables forward-looking decision-making. It also manages the dialogue with a wide range of Swiss Re’s public stakeholders.
Before assuming his current role, Martin was Senior Risk Officer in the Americas Risk Management team of Swiss Re. He had responsibilities across Risk Management in Latin America being based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. From 2011 to 2014, he was a secondee and Swiss Re Delegate at the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Washington DC. He was responsible to build up the Institute’s insurance industry initiatives on regulation, risk management and long-term investments.
In prior roles at Swiss Re he contributed to the monitoring of global regulatory developments and the identification and assessment of emerging risks. Before that he worked in different roles in Risk Management, Underwriting, Asset Management and Group Sustainability Management since 2002. Prior to Swiss Re he worked in consultancy and engineering companies. Martin holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in environmental physics from the ETH Zurich. He has further education in scenario analysis from Oxford and risk communication from Harvard.
