Christian Thimann serves as Chairman of the Managing Board of Athora Germany, a specialist solutions provider in the European insurance market.

Christian was previously Group Head of Regulation, Sustainability and Insurance Foresight at AXA coordinating the group’s global strategy. He oversaw its corporate responsibility ambition and the work on policy issues relevant for insurers. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Alliance Bernstein Investment Managers, New York, and of AXA Investment Managers, Paris.

Until 2013, he worked at the European Central Bank as Director General and Adviser to ECB President Mario Draghi; from 2008 to 2011, he was Adviser to ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet. Before joining the ECB in 1998, he worked at the International Monetary Fund in the Asian and the European departments.

Christian Thimann is a graduate from the London School of Economics, holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Munich and is affiliated professor at the Paris School of Economics.
